3 Blades vs 4 Blades vs and 5 Blades Ceiling fan comparison

A fan is an electrical machine with rotating blades, creating a current of cool air in the atmosphere. One of the key elements that play an important role in delivering the air is the blades of the fan. However, there are also some other factors that should be considered rather than blades only. The following factors can determine whether the 3 blades vs 4 blades vs 5 blades ceiling fan is better. Keep in mind while comparing the number of blades of a fan, all the other factors such as motor size, RPM speed, and blade pitch of the fan should remain the same.

Factors that determine Airflow- 3 Blades vs 4 Blades vs and 5 Blades Ceiling fan comparison

RPM Speed

If all the 3 bladed, 4 bladed, and 5 bladed fans have the same motor size, blade pitch, and RPM speed then the 5 bladed fans would push more air than the others. The fan with more blades has the ability to move more air. If the 3 bladed or 4 bladed fan has more RPM speed than the 5 bladed fans, then the 3 bladed fans and 4 bladed fans would create more air movement than the 5 bladed fans.

Pitch of the blade

The pitch of the blade refers to the angle of the fan blades or blade tilt.  A normal fan blade has an angle of 12 to 15 degrees in order to move an optimum amount of air. It serves a key role in determining the amount of air that is circulated by the fan. With similar blade pitch, the 5 bladed fans are going to move more air than the 4 bladed, and likewise 4 bladed fans will move more air than the 3 bladed fans. In case the motor size or speed of 3 bladed fans or 4 bladed fans is greater than the 5 bladed fans than the 3 bladed fans and 4 bladed fans will move more air than the other fan.

Noise production

As the number of blades increases the level of noise decreases. If the motor size, speed of the fan, and blade pitch remain the same then the 5 blades fan produces lesser noise than the 4 blades fan and in the same way, the 4 blades fan produces lesser noise as compared to the 3 bladed fans.

Blades shape and size

Bigger and wider fan blades and similarly smaller and narrow fan blades can reduce the effectiveness of the air movement. Normal-sized fan blades are better at circulating the air more efficiently. The fan with 5 normal sized blades is going to produce more airflow than 4 blades fan and in the same way, the 4 blades fan is will produce more airflow than the 3 blades fans.

Conclusion

The assessment of the above-mentioned factors determines that the 5 blades fan produces more air than 3 blades fan or 4 blades fan. If you are looking for a fan that circulates more air, then the 5 blades fan is a better option to go for.
